Values

Our diversity commitment

Rockpools’ business ethos and service delivery has, from our very inception, had a passionate commitment to championing meaningful diversity – in all senses of the word - at its heart. This is one of the reasons that we are deliberately positioned at the interface between the public, private and not for profit sectors with a highly collaborative way of working.

Not only do we believe in diversity as a core value in itself but, simply from the point of view of driving effective, responsive organisations, our many years of cumulative experience in recruitment tell us it works:

·         Diverse teams, which reflect their clients and customers, make better, more informed, decisions

·         Talent is transferable - talent exists in all sectors and the best of talent in any one sector is as good as the best of talent in any other sector

·         Talent comes in all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, abilities, aspirations, faiths, orientations, ages, nationalities, genders, colours, and accents

Our approach
Rockpools’ track record of placing diverse candidates is impressive compared to the averages for senior executive and non-executive appointments - for example just under 50% of our placed candidates are women, and approximately 18% are BME.

We are willing to constructively challenge clients with regard to the relevant backgrounds and experience of potentially strong candidates as a way of ensuring we can search in as wide and diverse a pool as we can, and to attract candidates who have backgrounds which might not be seen as ‘traditional’.

As a relatively small, boutique consultancy we are also able to genuinely maximise all of our people’s networks and market knowledge to source diverse talent and benchmark best practice.

We fully integrate diversity planning at the preparatory stages of each senior recruitment assignment to ensure it is embedded in the campaign design and that expectations are managed in line with the relevant markets.

Our expertise
At Board level, one of our Directors, Mohan Yogendran, is Rockpools’ corporate Diversity Champion, with responsibility for quality assuring our service offering in relation to diversity outcomes as well as the utilisation of best practice in our own business. Mohan has developed his expertise from previous senior roles in local government and blue-chip private firms. He has a Masters in Race Relations.

Three of our four Directors and the majority of our consultants have specific experience of working in the field of diversity and/or advising on diversity issues in the public and private sectors prior to their careers in recruitment.

We continuously work with senior civil servants, politicians, practitioners and key stakeholders during and outside of specific assignments – for example, leading conferences, pro-bono work with organisations such as the Law Society, RADAR and Asian Women’s Resource Centre - to maintain our networks and stay abreast of new developments.
